gray is the new neutral

i've heard gray is the new neutral and had entertained the idea of adding it to our office. after looking at many behr paint samples in various shades of gray... i fell in love. i started thinking, "this color would look great in the family room... in the kitchen... in the..." i ended up choosing three shades of gray with a hint of blue. i would have chosen a different color for each room, including accent walls... but the mister brought me back down to reality and convinced me it would be easier and quicker to paint a couple a rooms at a time with the same color. given our time constraints and over 2300 sq ft of walls to paint, i quickly agreed. i figure we can add accent walls once our furniture is in and we have a better idea of how it all meshes together.

we went with behr ultra paints b'coz that's the mister's preference. they have a huge selection of colors, that you really can't go wrong with or have any trouble finding the perfect color to fit your needs. one gallon of the ultra paints in flat was approximately $24 at our local home depot and covers about 300 sq ft. it's a couple dollars more for gloss. we purchased behr's ultra white in semi-gloss to touch up the door and window frames.

sparrow: 2 gallons for approx. 500 sq ft - kid's room + family room.
... a little paint left over... we can save for touch ups in the future.

gray area: 3 gallons for approx. 800 sq ft - master bedroom + office.
... we ended up using only two gallons, returning the third can and saving $24!

sterling: 3 gallons for approx. 900 sq ft - kitchen + dining room + living room + hallways
... we used every last drop, including the small sample can!

i highly recommend investing in a black & decker rapid roller. this, combined with the shur-line paint edger saved us a lot of time and money in buying additional paint supplies!
