This is all came about when I said to my coworker that BLT's aren't all that great. So he made me one with avocado to prove me wrong. I ate the sandwich and it was meh. It wasn't GREAT, it was just OK. I explained to him how I felt like there was something missing from the sandwich. I chose to compare it to movies... great analogy. The sandwich is the movie and all the ingredients are characters. Bacon, in my mind, is not suitable to play the lead role... at least not in this sandwich! My coworker then says this is how he's know I'm not a man... thank God for that!... I think my boyfriend is quite happy to know that I'm not a man either! He goes on to say that any guy will consider bacon to be in its own food group... it's just THAT good. I happen to love bacon and I'm not arguing that it's a great fatty meat product. My argument is that it doesn't make a good leading character. Bacon is like Ben Affleck, it makes a better supporting character. Salad with bacon bits... Scrambled eggs and bacon... bacon cheeseburger... bacon wrapped hot dogs... bacon wrapped turkey... bacon wrapped anything... pizza with canadian bacon... etc.
So I asked a couple of my male friends and this was by far the BEST response...
Me: would you agree that bacon is its own food group?
Friend: yes
Friend: when Muslims eat bacon and don't consider it pork
Friend: haha
Me: lol
Friend: same with Jews
Friend: haha
Me: so I'm eating a BLT and i feel like it's missing its starring character... all of the ingredients are just supporting characters.... so my coworker goes, "see, that's how i know you're not a man. b'coz you don't consider bacon as the lead role."
Friend: well.. depends on who made the sandwich
Friend: did they put enough to qualify it as the lead role
Friend: this conversation getting deep now
Friend: *sigh*
Me: hahahahaha
Me: yeah we're deep... talking about bacon
Me: no see maybe that's why i don't think it's worthy of being the lead character, b'coz there's only 3 slices of bacon
Me: and you know me... i LOVE bacon.... but 3 slices? as the main attraction for a sandwich?
Friend: ya, they set it up to be a side item
Friend: unless it was thick sliced
Me: nah just regular...
Me: bah! i've been had!
In the end, I realized I had been cheated out of a worthy BLT sandwich experience b'coz there wasn't enough bacon added to the sandwich to make it stand on its own as the main attraction. All the other ingredients outweighed it in taste and texture. Like going to the movies to watch that kick ass blockbuster you've been waiting 3 months to see only to be disappointed b'coz all the good parts were shown in trailers and now you're out $10 and 90 minutes of your life you will never get back. sigh.
